If you are a human who is alive and want to live with joy and presence, this book is for you. If you feel disconnected, isolated and sad this book is for you. If you have lost loved ones or are anxious about your own mortality, this book is for you. I love everything about The art of Living. If I were to only be able to have one book or recommend one book for the rest of my life, this is the book I would choose without hesitation. In reading it I felt a deeper connection to the earth, to nature, to my ancestors. I felt comforted and soothed by the concepts so eloquently described that nothing dies that there is only transformation. It has given me a far deeper experience of peace andpresence. When I finished it, I went back to the beginning and have been underlining what speaks to me in rainbow pencil, some pages are all underlined. This book has been a revelation and a balm. It has guided me to a peaceful place among all things during a very challenging time in my life. I am forever grateful for the ripples of healing in Thich Nhat Hahn’s words. As he beautifully describes, what he shares goes on long after his body was transformed, and humble review reader, in your own way, so will you. If you choose to live your life fully, this is a wise, warm and welcoming companion. I recommend it to everyone. Don’t hesitate, let yourself receive the magic.

The Reading Room –
A marvellous book that manages to be both re-affirming and challenging – 5 StarsAlthough Iâve read a good few books on Buddhist teachings and mindfulness over the years, this is the first Iâve read by Thich Nhat Hanh. I soon chose not to read it from cover-to-cover in one or two evenings as Iâd planned, but read a chapter, or even just a section, on most days over an extended period. I think this approach worked better for me, and enabled me to gain more from it.The essential messages are simple (They always were!), but Iâve rarely encountered a book that has made me pay such close attention. One of the main reasons for that is âThe Art of Livingâ is very readable. It also, I have to say, succeeded in making me re-think my interpretation of some of the basic concepts behind Buddhist teachings. ‘Emptiness’ was, and still is, a real challenge!Uplifting, questioning, and reaffirming, this book had great relevance. No, I didnât agree with every word, but then this is not about learning by rote, itâs very much a stimulus thatâs pertinent to finding where you âfitâ as an individual and as a part of a greater wholeâ¦and, I guess thatâs as blissfully variable as we all are.

Not bad, some parts are very engaging, others are simply repetitive and involve common sense. I’ve read other reviews about other great books about mindfulness, meditation, spiritually from a “buddhist” point of view, and I find that I agree that as a Buddhist monk that Thich That Hanh is, repetition is essential in buddhism and this book repeats constantly several relevant sections like a dharma would be – something positive.
