Through The Healing Wisdom of Africa, readers can come to understand that the life of indigenous and traditional people is a paradigm for an intimate relationship with the natural world that both surrounds us and is within us. The book is the most complete study of the role ritual plays in the lives of African people–and the role it can play for seekers in the West.

This book has opened my mind and heart in a new way and has filled my life with hope and excitement! There is so much more in this world than what we can see and what we’ve been taught and Malidoma is living proof of that. So grateful to be able to read his story and insights!

This book has touched me in so many ways. It perfectly described the troubles of the Western, “modern” civilizations and offers pieces of African tribal wisdom about how to heal, how to reconnect, how to thrive inside of a community, the importance of remembering our purpose and the responsibility of the community to support the genius of every single child to form into an adult who knows how to connect to others and the world. It trully resonated with me, and gave me insights about my next step in life to live my own purpuse. The book is simply written, with a very powerful content which goes straight to the heart. I have orderd hiw other books as well.

You really must read this book. It oozes with warmth and wisdom: ‘feeding your soul’ as it opens up an understanding of African indigenous communities and their spiritual integration with each other and the natural world. There is a lot in this that ‘more developed’ societies could learn – or perhaps remember. The author does a wonderful job of communicating the importance of community, and the development within community of individuals and their talents/life purposes. It explains the ways in which a common purpose for the Dagara people (whose lives depend very directly upon each other and their immediate environment) is interwoven with the health of both the natural and spirit worlds. In this way, they have survived sustainably without ‘high aspirations’ or ‘mega-consumerism’: things which don’t necessarily make human beings happy.I feel that there is a strong message to the western world within this book – and many ideas that would be of great help, if we could listen.
