The dichroscope shows if a stone is dichroic (reflects 2 colours). This can be helpful to distinguish stones of the same colour from each other. Dichroscopes can be identified with gemstones that are still in the rough and when stones are set and difficult to get with other instruments. Light entering the dichroscope is divided into two polarized beams that have oscillation directions at right angles to each other. The two images in the dichroscope represent the polarized light, and the pleochroic colours mean double-refractive stones, except when the stone is viewed through the optical axis. Single colour in the dichroscope represents individually refractive stones. The advantage of the dichroscope is that the two pleochroitic colours characteristic of a given direction are seen next to each other in a double-refractive jewel. If no dichroism is identified in the first evaluation, the stone can be turned and viewed in other directions. Trichronic gemstones can also be distinguished and show three colours when the stone is viewed in three directions perpendicular to each other.

This is the best thing I’ve bought so far in my new and steep learning curve into gemmology.I would urge everyone who has a need to correctly identify a stone to have one of these as a diagnostic tool. (Amongst other tools).I’ve already confidently sent fake “gemstones “ back to eBay sellers, confident I was right.Get the tools, learn how to use them, and hopefully be no ones fool.

Ich selber bin Gemmologe und benutze sehr oft ein dichroscope um ebenfalls den pleo zu bestimmen, Top Set inkl Leder Tasche! Allerdings wie beschrieben ist d. Durchmesser sehr klein geraten aber, Immer noch zu benutzen und schnelle, verbindliche Lieferung! Klasse! Dankeschön
